The rules are simple...there's a hat, this hat is filled with many questions ranging from the personal to the off beat.  We pass the hat, and artists gets a chance to answer the question they choose from said hat.  Fun is had by all.

A couple weeks ago we sat down with Cali's Coast Modern at their stop in Philadelphia on the Sirius XM Alt Nation Advanced Placement Tour at The Foundry.  They've been touring a releasing new tunes for the better part of three years now, including opening for the likes of BØRNS, Temper Trap, and The Wombats.  We got to chat with the hilarious duo, Coleman Trapp and Luke Atlas.

Without further ado, here's our Chat in the Hat with Coast Modern:

---

Coleman: What is your favorite food on the road?

-Ramen.  We seek out good ramen spots because we found an amazing one by accident in Charlotte.

Luke: Give me your best door to door salesman pitch for you album:

-You’re basically going to get Disneyland in a can, for the low low price of free to ten dollars.  You can visit all the rides and meet all the scary monsters, all the pirates, all the enchanted fairies, and laugh, cry, scream.  You’re going to want to pick that up today.

Coleman: What’s your best party trick?

-Magic. Various forms of magic

Luke: I was going to say fake french.  He can trick anyone into thinking he’s fluent in French.

Coleman: Even people who speak French are like…I thought I knew French, but damn

Luke: If you could be an animal for the day what would you be?

-I think I would just be a dog.  I know it’s a boring answer, but I love a good dog.  I wanna run around and get pet.

Coleman: What is your recording and writing process like?

-We usually start fairly early in the day, some various projects I've worked on you go in at like midnight, but this specific project it’s like noon.   We talk about dad stuff, like philosophy and…

Luke: tools

Coleman: and what’s new in life, and then we just kinda vibe out.  Play some beats, pick up the guitar, and nine times out of ten it doesn’t go anywhere, sometimes it goes all the way

Coleman: If you could create one Holiday, what would it be for and what would you call it?

-Pool Day: everybody takes off work and goes sneaking into pools.  You’re not allowed to swim in a pool that you’re allowed in.  It’s called Sneak Into a Pool Day

Luke: What do you do to pass the time on the road?

-I wish I knew

Coleman: we don’t pass time, the time passes us

Luke: sleep.  sleep is the best thing to try and do, and sometimes it comes unintentionally,  most of the time.

Coleman: What is your zombie apocalypse plan?

-I feel like I’ve thought about this before, but now I don’t know.  I’d commit suicide.  I don't wanna die by zombies and I also don't want to live in a weird survival mode.  It’s the end of the world, just cut to the chase, and then you can be a zombie, and that’s where the party’s at.

Luke: I’d go full machete.  I think that’d be fun.  I would just break things.

Coleman: What if you just join the zombie side and just fucking people over.  Tripping people, unlocking doors.

Luke: What is your guilty pleasure song?

Endless.  “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus.  Anything from WHAM.  Or George Michael.

Coleman: Pick a new name, occupation, and hairstyle for your bandmates:

-Luke’s new name is Baby Guy.  Occupation: still be in the band, but he’d play the theremin.  Hairstyle: parted right down the middle, but bleached and really short

Luke: your name is Link.  You have long black hair, and you’re a magic the gathering dealer.

Luke: Describe your new album with animals:

-There’s a song called 'Animals'.  It’s full of animals. dogs, dolphins, tigers, giraffes, wrestling.
